Accessorize Your Empanada!

Dips are always delicious, especially when paired with empanadas!

At Lima Empanadas, we are particularly fond of 3 types of dips when serving empanadas.

Chilimayo, salsa, and chimichurri.

Chimichurri is a green salsa, somewhat similar to pesto, with origins in South American cuisine. It’s made with fresh herbs like parsley, mint, and oregano, seasoned with garlic and a bit of chili.

The base of salsa is tomatoes and onions, but it only gets better with a little garlic and chili. Often, you’ll find salsa in a more liquid form. You can make your own if you prefer a coarser version with larger chunks and a fresher tomato taste.

Chili mayo is an easy go-to. You can buy it in various versions, so you can find the one that matches your taste and desired level of spice. You can also make it yourself – either from scratch or a quicker version.

Here’s a quick recipe for Chilimayo:

• 2 dl Mayonnaise

• 0.5 dl Sriracha chili sauce

• ¼ lime, squeezed

Mix all the ingredients together and taste to adjust.

If you don’t have liquid chili sauce, you can use chili flakes or powder. However, it’s a bit harder to control the flavor and will need to sit for a while to let the taste develop.

Enjoy and Buen Provecho!
